The Story Behind Grayfish Golf: Golf Apparel Drawn by Hand

People ask where the name Grayfish comes from. It's not a fish. It's my son — Grayson Fisher. Gray-Fish. Naming the brand after him felt right, because everything about it comes from the same place: making something original, by hand, that lasts.

Raised by artists

I grew up around working artists. My parents ran a handcrafted jewelry business, and my dad — a fine-arts grad who moved from painting into design — taught me early that a blank page is an opportunity, not a problem. I was "the artist" in school, and I earned a scholarship to study 3D art and animation. That way of seeing never left me.

The long way around to golf

My career took the scenic route — architectural rendering, then a pivot into UI/UX when the housing market fell apart, and eventually leading engineering teams in tech. Somewhere in there, my wife and I went through IVF and had Grayson, then twins. And somewhere in there, later than most, I found golf. It became two things at once: a passion, and a steady stream of ideas.

Where art meets the course

Standing on the course in the same plain polo as everyone else, I kept thinking the same thing an artist always thinks: this could be a canvas. So Grayfish started as original, hand-drawn doodle art — Birdie Fest, Baked Fantasy, Patterned Reality — printed across shirts, hats, and towels you can actually coordinate.

But art alone wasn't enough. As someone who builds things, I wanted the gear to solve real on-course annoyances, too: hats with a hidden ball-marker holder and a tee holder, towels with a magnetic back-pocket square. The kind of details that make you say, "why doesn't everyone do this?"

What you're actually wearing

Grayfish is a small, founder-run brand — not a logo licensed onto a blank cap. When you wear it, you're wearing a story about creativity, persistence, and making something with your own hands. That's worth more to me than fitting in on the first tee.
